Casper launched in 2014 on a mission to completely change an industry that hadn’t seen innovation in decades.

Traditional mattress companies had gotten away with using gimmicky promotions for far too long. They’ll stop at nothing to try to trick you into thinking you’re getting the best mattress of your life. Think: Meaningless jargon words, flashy names, “slashed” prices, and convincing tag lines. Their stores, filled with rows of mattresses the salespeople know absolutely nothing about, are all somehow “right for you.”

Casper knew there had to be a better way. To really turn the industry completely on its head and break through the clutter, innovation had to be built into Casper long before day 1. There wasn’t a single piece of the industry that didn’t need a completely new way of thinking behind it.

  • The obsessively engineered mattress: The Casper founders spent 9 months visiting 15 factories to understand the properties of hundreds of materials. Our research led us to discover that a single, well-balanced bed could cater to the vast majority of sleeping positions, body types, and slumber eccentricities. The stores filled with rows of different mattresses were actually unnecessary all along. We developed our award-winning mattress with a combination of foams — each specifically chosen for properties such as comfort, support, temperature. The layers work together perfectly to create the ultimate sleep surface.
  • The seamless delivery: Getting a mattress to your door has never been easier. We wanted to eliminate the days of schlepping king mattresses up flights of stairs and exorbitant delivery fees. Casper uses a custom-built, high-tonnage compression machine to compress, fold, and pack the beds into a mini fridge sized shipping box. The best part? It ships free.
  • The comfortable in-home sleep trial: Trying a mattress has historically included driving to a huge retail store, laying on countless beds for five minutes each, and trying to get comfortable with a salesperson hovering over you. From only a few minutes, it’s impossible to tell if you’ll sleep well for “I have too many emails to sleep” nights and hungover mornings to come. Instead, Casper offers a 100-night trial with free returns, so you can sleep on it for three months in your own home. If you don’t love it, we’ll come pick it up, and donate or recycle your returned mattress.

But then what? Traditional mattress companies come out with a new bed every time you refresh your browser. They try to persuade you into thinking there is something better you need to buy. Instead, our engineering team has been making intricate changes to our universally comfortable mattress to ensure it is the very best. The team spends their days and nights studying the mattress, conducting sleep research, and uncovering comfort. They have added a new fourth transition layer to soften the Casper at even its deepest layers. They’ve worked with a renowned polymer chemist to make our base foam more durable.
