Waffle Crush Sunday?
During our endless search for New York City’s best waffle, we’ve visited quite a few spots: popular cafes, chicken and waffle havens, and even the unexpected cocktail bar boasting all-day brunch.
But, we’ll let you in on a little known secret. One of the most glorious waffle creations can be found at one of New York City’s hottest seafood restaurants. The catch: it’s only available on the weekend.
Catch NYC is famous for Top Chef winner Hung Huynh’s seafood menu, so naturally, the “Anytime Waffle Tower” stuck out like a sore thumb. No questions asked, we ventured to the Meatpacking District to see for ourselves. Up four floors we went until we arrived at the rooftop. We were welcomed with sunshine, views, and most importantly, fans.
First came the coffee, and then came the Smoke Show: a cocktail made with Absolute Elyx served in a copper pineapple spouting cinnamon ” fog”.
To whet our appetites, we devoured a stack of cinnamon roll pancakes, complete with a brown sugar cinnamon swirl, candied almonds, and a light cream cheese frosting. They were thick, fluffy, and had a cake-like texture—we’d say the cinnamon roll’s distant cousin.
Alas, the moment we’d been waiting for. A 6-layered tower of maple waffles, ice cream (vanilla, milk chocolate, and raspberry), chocolate ganache, and raspberry jam – topped with toasted almonds, vanilla bean whipped cream, and cacao nibbles. The sight? Not one for sore eyes or sore stomachs. Every bite was a swirl of color and flavor.
Waffle Crush Sunday? It doesn’t have the same ring. But 10/10 would recommend to a friend.
