Clinton Street Baking Co., one of Manhattan’s most renowned breakfast spots, was put on the map because of its colossal brunch line. It can be seen from blocks away — and can truly only be tackled by the most dedicated of food fans — as wait time spans from two to four hours long. The restaurant even has a page dedicated to the time you will inevitably be waiting. But trust us, it is worth it. Oh, the things we do for blueberry pancakes and mouthwatering buttermilk biscuit sandwiches.

Since opening, Clinton Street Baking Co. has racked up a variety of awards, from New York Magazine’s Best Pancakes to an honorary accolade from the Michelin Guide. And the praise is warranted, if our tastebuds have anything to say about it. The signature Blueberry Pancakes and Warm Maple Butter is the restaurant’s most iconic dish. However, don’t miss out on Clinton Street’s other breakfast gems, like the Buttermilk Biscuit Sandwich, Brioche French Toast, and Eggs Benedict. Protip: As a reward for waiting, order the entire menu.

Technically, the only “waffle” on the menu is the Fried Chicken and Waffle, which is undeniably delicious. However, the bustling downtown spot features daily waffle specials, from Coconut Cream and German Chocolate to Vanilla and Mixed Berry. Though ordering at Clinton Street Baking is daunting, this time around was easy as pie. Or shall we say, easy as Apple Pie Waffle. It was topped with sautéed cinnamon apples, crunchy cinnamon sugar clusters, thickly whipped cream, and a warm dousing of their famous maple butter. We’ll take two, please.

Casper’s unofficial waffle rating: 10.0
