Waffle Crush Wednesday: Mother’s Ruin

When you think of Mother’s Ruin, you probably don’t think about waffles. The local bar and cocktail haven on Spring Street seems like your average neighborhood joint, advertising pickleback shots and pimento cheese dip. But the casual and uniquely low-key spot also serves brunch — seven days a week.

The chalkboard stand at the entrance boasted the “Brunch Holy Trinity: Ingestion, Inebriation, and Caffeination.” It’s menu didn’t exactly turn us away either.

Inevitably, we chose the ‘Eggo’ Waffles. But these weren’t ordinary Eggos. Fair warning: The following description may make your mouth water and stomach rumble.

The waffles were the perfect shade of golden yellow. On top, sat two beautiful pieces of crispy fried chicken and a sprinkle of chives. We doused the dish in a swirling pool of Cholula honey glaze and buttermilk dressing.

We craved something sweet to cool our taste buds, so we ordered the Frenchie: challah french toast topped with fresh poached pears, maple syrup, and chai whipped cream. Yes, chai.

Last, but not least, we gave in to the old bay seasoned waffle fries, complete with chipotle ketchup and a caramelized onion and chive creme fraiche. Because it wouldn’t be #WaffleCrushWednesday without waffle fries.

Our Very, Very Unofficial Waffle Rating: 9.8
